Cody Figure Skating Club has been so very blessed to have the Jewell family coach at the helm of the club for longer than most club members can even remember and although Kathie has retired from regular coaching in Cody, and the CFSC program now looks a little different, we have a schedule of fabulous visiting coaches (including the Jewells) coming to teach skating skills each week.
Coach Tiffany is travelling from Pinedale WY to run choreography workshops for the creation of competition and show programs. And how lucky are we that Coaches Macey and Tashi, both PSA qualified and USFSA registered coaches, are based right here in Cody and ready to coach our skaters, and offer private lessons through the week! (See more below)
Visiting Coach: Kathy Jewell
Kathy is originally from Buffalo, New York but and currently resides in Montana where she was the cornerstone of the Figure Skating Club of Billings and developed the skating program in Cody, Wyoming.
Kathie is a US Figure Skating & PSA Registered Coach, CER certified, IJS Technical Specialist (non-qualifying).
She has thirty years experience taking skaters through their golds, and has taught regional, sectional and junior national competitors in freestyle, dance, and pairs.
Kathie’s emphasis is on freestyle and moves in the field. She enjoys teaching skaters of all levels with a variety of goals – be it recreational or competitive.
Visiting Coach: Kyla Jewell
Kyla Jewell hails from Billings, MT and started skating at the tiny age of just two.
She currently attends Montana State University in Bozeman, MT where she studies Mechanical Engineering, but having begun competing at such a young age, figure skating is her passion.
Kyla thoroughly enjoys competing, and coaching, and as a Gold Medalist in Moves in The Field at just 11 years old and Gold Freestyle at 16, its unsurprising that she travelled Europe fulfilling her dream of joining a professional figure skating show!
Kyla is a PSA Registered Coach, CER certified, and a USFSA registered coach.
Cody Coach: Macey Reed
Macey first hit the ice at the Riley at three years old and having spent literally thousands of hours at the arena over many years, she considers it her second home. Combining a busy schedule at UW where she is studying to be a CPA, this will be Macey’s third year coaching with CFSC and she is a registered USFSA coach, and also CER certified by the PSA. Macey’s coaching specialisms include: Stress & Sport Performance, GOE Scores ratings, pulling in Parents as Partners and Attentional Focus and Motor Learning.
Macey passed her Novice Moves in the Field and Juvenile Freestyle tests, she has competed successfully across the tri-states at skating competitions, and in 2017 she competed with the CFSC Travelling Team at the
State Games of America in Grand Rapids, MI.
Tashi was a late starter to skating at the grand old age of 9, but sure has made up lost time, and is a registered USFSA coach, also CER certified by the PSA as a skating coach, qualified in everything from safety, and test protocols, coaching ethics and child development in skaters, to stress and sport performance and designing practice routines/sessions.
She's currently taking a gap year to compile a film portfolio before taking her place in either film or broadcast journalism school. Her gap year also gives her time to train in Sun Valley, ID where she is devotee of the beautiful outdoor ice.
Tash has her Novice MIF and Pre-Juv Freestyle tests, and has also competed successfully across the tri-states at many skating competitions, and at the State Games of America in Grand Rapids, MI.
Private lessons are a dollar a minute for coaching, and are generally 20 minutes long.
Private lessons can be booked directly with visiting coaches, usually during the week before they arrive.
A notification will be sent out by the club as each coach's schedule becomes available for their session, and most use dedicated booking apps to book lessons. Links below where applicable.
Tashi Mathuin: https://skatinglessonswithtashi.as.me
Coach Tiffany Program choreographing lessons are already fully allocated for the Fall Session.
Please know that when coaches put private lessons online they are often booked out in 15 minutes flat, so you have to move fast.
If your skater is in the Snowplow or Basic 1-6 group, they should not book with visiting coaches (unless they are working with Coach Tiffany during September 2021). Snowplow and Basic 1-6 skaters should generally continue to work with their own Coaches Macey and Tashi whose private lesson schedules will be updated every Monday at 2pm.
