LEARN TO SKATE PROGRAM

Our goal is to provide a fun and positive experience that will instill a lifelong love of skating. Something happens the moment your kid’s skates touch the ice. It's surreal. Empowering. It’s the experience where kids learn much about skating, and themselves. Your child learns glides, swizzles, edges and crossovers. Your child learns positivity, confidence and personal strength.

Our Learn to Skate Program follows the USA curriculum with a progressive approach. This allows skaters to master each skill before moving on to the next, giving them a solid foundation of skills and techniques to build upon. Skaters are able to set manageable goals and track their progress. This provides powerful motivation and a sense of accomplishment as they advance through their skating journey!!

It is important that skaters have mastery of a skill before moving on because one skill will often be a building block for another. We shoot for mastery, which means that a skater can successfully execute a move 8 out of 10 times that the move is attempted. Many skills repeat throughout the curriculum, and mastery will look different at each of the levels. The element should be strong enough so that the skater does not struggle in the future levels.

LEARN-TO-SKATE LEVELS

Snowplow Sams~  The Snowplow Sam levels are designed to help the beginning skater, aged 4-6 years old, develop preliminary coordination and strength to maneuver on the ice. Snowplow Sam is a big, fuzzy polar bear who loves to skate.

Basic 1-6~ The mission of the Basic Skills Program is to provide a goal-oriented program that encourages ice skating at all levels and to enhance the quality of skating skills at these levels.

Pre-Freeskate and Freeskate 1-2~ Each Freeskate level is composed of four categories: moves in the field, spins, dance/footwork sequence, and jumps. The Free Skate levels are designed to give skaters a strong foundation on which to build their skills and prepare for USFSA competitive levels.

ADVANCED FIGURE SKATING PROGRAM

Join our advanced figure skating program, where dedicated skaters focus on honing their skills and preparing for USFS competitions, from Aspire to USFS Gold levels. Our experienced coaches provide personalized training to help each skater reach their full potential. Embrace the challenge and elevate your performance in a supportive and encouraging environment. Let's take your figure skating journey to the next level!

CFSC Advanced Program is for skaters that have surpassed the skills learned in our Learn to Skate Lessons. Skaters in our Advanced program are required to work with a private coach, own their own skates, and attend regular rink Freestyle Ice Practice sessions.  Advanced Lessons focus on figure skating concepts and building on the fundamentals they develop with their private coaches; private coaches determine their skating/competition level.  At this stage, skaters often find themselves on a testing track with US Figure Skating and competing at multiple competitions to showcase their talents.

U.S. FIGURE SKATING ASPIRE PROGRAM  helps beginning figure skaters make the transition from learn to skate group classes into U.S. Figure Skating membership by teaching all of the skills necessary for the USFSA competitive levels and setting motivating goals for each skater to make this momentous leap.

USFS TESTING

Cody Figure Skating Club strives to provide our Advanced Skaters with the training and opportunities to test all of the way through the USFS track and become a USFS Gold Medalist! As a club, we host 1 Testing sessions per year, at our annual competition.  As skaters advance in their testing journeys, their skill on the ice becomes mastery. The promise of another conquered level keeps them motivated and pushing toward their goals.

TEST CATEGORIES

~Singles~ Skaters must perform a series of jumps, spins, and footwork sequences as applicable to each level.

~Skills~ Skaters must demonstrate proper edges, power, and flow through various footwork patterns.

~Dance~ Skaters learn various footwork sequences to music such as the Dutch Waltz, Canasta Tango, and Rhythm Blues.

~Pairs~ Pairs tests evaluate a pair of skaters' ability to execute a choreographed program with specific elements, showcasing their unison and teamwork.

SAFETY FIRST

Cody Figure skating Club is fully insured and adheres to the rules and regulations set forth by USFS in their Safeskate Handbook, which is linked below.

SAFE SKATE HANDBOOK

All skaters and parents are required to follow the rules of the Riley Ice Arena. During lesson times, we separate our skaters by skill level for a reason, and it's important to remember to watch out and be mindful of other skaters! Please talk to your skater about awareness of others. If you have specific questions about the expected protocol on and off the ice, we encourage you to talk to a coach.
